15 Grade 6 students from the Senate President Neptali A. Gonzales Integrated School (SPNAGIS) received an interventive reading enhancement session from the extensionists of Rizal Technological University (RTU) on March 19, 2026, to help the struggling students improve their reading competencies and reach their appropriate skill level as prescribed by the Department of Education.
The intervention program was a university-sanctioned extension program titled “Enabling Young Learners: Strategic Reading Intervention for Struggling Pupils of Mandaluyong City”. It was organized and administered by faculty extensionists from the College of Arts and Sciences, namely Dr. Amormia Rudita P. Caranto, Dr. William J. Cabasaan, Jr., and Dr. Vanessa D. Umali.
The program and its proponents aimed to improve the learners’ reading proficiency and comprehension, as well as enhance their writing skills through targeted instructional interventions and guided learning activities.
The activity-based extension program included structured reading sessions and provided individualized support to address the specific learning needs. Through these interventions, the learners were guided to develop proper reading habits, better comprehension, and enhance written expression.
The intervention program is just one of the many initiatives of RTU in sharing its expertise and resources with its immediate communities, especially with its neighbors in Mandaluyong City. As one of the few higher education institutions in the city, RTU remains committed to its shared duty in uplifting the community through quality education and Rizaliano academic excellence.
