RTU BTVTED Department Elevates HHIS Students’ Photoshop Skills through P.I.X.E.L.S. Extension Program

Faculty extensionists from Rizal Technological University’s (RTU) Bachelor in Technical-Vocational Teacher Education (BTVTED) Department introduced 28 students from Highway Hills Integrated School (HHIS) to the fundamentals of Digital Photo Editing using Adobe Photoshop through an activity-based extension program titled, “P.I.X.E.L.S. (Photoshop Introduction: Xtreme Lessons and Skills)”, enhancing their creative and technical competencies in visual design

The program, conducted on March 2-3, 2026, was organized and spearheaded by Instr. Mariacil Agustin-Villanueva, Program Head for BTVTED-VGD, with the support and assistance of student volunteers from the College of Education-BTVTED Department, who major in Visual Graphic Design (VGD). With their expertise, the extensionists facilitated the hands-on training of the Grade 11 students enrolled in the Computer System Services subject.

Through guided demonstrations and practical exercises, participants learned basic photo-editing skills, including using fundamental tools and layers in Adobe Photoshop. Students were also able to apply creative digital editing techniques in producing outputs that meet professional standards for visual communication, integrating their newly acquired Photoshop skills with core concepts learned in their Information and Communication Technology subject.

The extension program did more than expose students to digital design tools through practical applications; it also helped them strengthen their technical and creative abilities, both essential in their field of study.

Through practical activity-based extension programs like P.I.X.E.L.S., RTU reaffirms its commitment to equal access to quality education and lifelong learning. As a State University and despite its focus on tertiary education, RTU remains proactive in engaging with communities and initiating programs that enhance them, drawing on the technical expertise available across its academic departments.
