In a symbolic step toward strengthening academic collaboration, Rizal Technological University (RTU) and Jose Rizal University (JRU) formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), marking the beginning of a partnership rooted in a shared heritage as both institutions proudly carry the name of the Philippine National Hero, Dr. Jose Rizal.
The MOU signing highlights the common ground between the two universities despite their differing institutional backgrounds. RTU, a public university, and JRU, a private university, both uphold educational ideals inspired by Rizal’s vision of enlightenment through knowledge, civic responsibility, and national development.
University leaders emphasized that the collaboration symbolizes more than an administrative agreement; it reflects a shared commitment to nurturing students who embody Rizal’s values of excellence, critical thinking, and service to the nation.
According to representatives from both institutions, the partnership aims to foster academic exchanges, research collaborations, and joint community initiatives that will benefit students, faculty, and surrounding communities.
One proposed initiative under the partnership is a “Rizal Legacy Collaboration Project.” This program would bring together students and faculty from RTU and JRU to work on interdisciplinary projects inspired by Rizal’s life and works. Potential activities may include community education programs, historical research on Rizal’s contributions, cultural exhibits, and innovation projects addressing social issues—reflecting Rizal’s enduring message of nation-building through education.
The project seeks to demonstrate how the ideals championed by Rizal remain relevant today, encouraging students from both institutions to translate his principles into meaningful action.
The MOU signing serves as a reminder that, while RTU and JRU operate in different sectors, they are united by a common inspiration. Through collaboration, both universities hope to further advance Rizal’s vision of education as a powerful tool for societal progress.
As the partnership unfolds, RTU and JRU aim to create opportunities that will not only strengthen academic cooperation but also honor the legacy of Dr. Jose Rizal, whose name both institutions proudly bear.
