Moon and Mars

Posted 19, 2018

Last night the First Quarter Moon was less than two degrees from Mars.  I hurriedly set up my old reliable Astroscan on the sidewalk to observe this conjunction.  With the 25-mm Plossl eyepiece at 17x, the Moon and Mars were visible in the same field of view.

A few minutes later the senior high school students of the nearby Arellano University in Pagasa Street in Barangay Caniogan in Pasig City were on their way home after their last class and chanced upon what I was doing with this curiously-shaped telescope.  They milled around and I allowed them to take a peek on the eyepiece.

This turned out to be to an impromptu Sidewalk Astronomy.
