The new equipment for Mechanical Engineering which we have purchased through public bidding has arrived. When I visited the ME laboratory the equipment is still wrapped in plastic. The steam power Plant Simulation Unit provides the students the necessary foundation in the operation, maintenance and trouble-shooting of a steam power plant. According to Engr. Gerry Cabrera, Head of the ME Department, “The operating behavior of the simulation unit is similar to a real power plant. It is interfaced with a computer with data acquisition software. The software will enable the display of measured values on a PC where the recording and saving of data gathered is possible. The measured values are directly transmitted to a PC through a USB port.”
The unit includes a steam generating unit, a steam turbine and condenser including the accessories and instruments for monitoring the system and safety devices.
