Senator Lacson Inducts RTU Student Leaders

Guided by his personal dictum “What is right must be kept right. What is wrong must be set right” Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson led the induction into office of the officers of this years recognized academic and non-academic student organizations, at the Rizal Technological University main Campus quadrangle on August 8.

Senator Lacson encouraged the student leaders to say no to the temptations inherent to their positions by having “strong stomachs”. According to him what comprises a leader was simply classified into courage, integrity and loyalty. He also believed that leadership is earned not inherited. In addition, he shared the idealism he learned while he was on a military training and the experiences he had while holding several key positions in government including the times when he served as the Chief of Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Task Force under then President Joseph Ejercito Estrada.

Dr. Jose Q, Macaballug, the university president on the other hand challenged the student leaders and the faculty advisers to come up with the decisions that will always support the interest of majority. “We must set aside all our personal inequities and interests and just be ready to execute what we see as our responsibility.”

Dr. Juliana B. Tabula discussed abundantly the challenges a student leader must face in the continuing endeavor to serve. According to her student leaders, as well as student organizations, play vital roles in the development of a school because both act as catalyst of growth and as the backbone of all development efforts by the school.

The event was attended by the incumbent officers of the Supreme Student Council led by John Ehvan Dominic Moreno, the student regent, and Jean Pearly Taperla, Chairperson of the Mandaluyong Campus Central Student Coucil. Also present on the said event was Dr. Marilou C. Asturias, Vice President for Student Services who delivered the closing remarks.
